Let's Go Back To The 60's

HELLOOO~Dear cherished readers, here we are again! As we all know, students nowadays rarely get in touch with traditional food and are fond of eating Western , Japanese and Korea cuisines! So we will be recommending to you guys two old, traditional restaurants that have been running their business for almost 50 years in Old Town of Kampar. Can you call this as Old School? Yes. you can!

So, below are the two posts about the old established shops .

Let's get to the post.

Hi, Guys! In our 3rd blog post we're looking for Kampar famous piping hot steamed claypot chicken rice  restaurant CHAN SIEW HENG. Here is one of those stalls that stand out among it's other competitors, making it one of a kind with history spanning almost 50 years, Chan Siew Heng has been dishing out of million of goodness. The two brothers who run the shop now are the 2nd generation beginning from it's founder. The rice is cooked in a claypot over a charcoal stove and served in a single claypot bowl after 20 minute on the hot stove. If one is already hard  enough to manage, try imagining them running 21 bowls at the same time not to mention the different bowl size and cooking time they have to remember. Now that's  feat worth the salutes.

One of the brother is in charge of cooking the charcoal claypot rice while the other is in charge of mixing the sauce. As show in the picture.

They are busying  prepare all those ingredients and the charcoal. Their mom was there to help them that day too. *They look so lovely*

Here is the main ingredients- chicken!!! It's marinated with salt, sugar, soya sauce, pepper, sesame oil, and some secret ingredient. shhhhhh~

Hey...~dear readers~~can you see that white uncooked rice, that's high quality one! Besides, there are over hundred and hundred claypots on the rack.

AWWWWW~we're so hungry~~Can't wait for the claypot chicken rice~~ =S

There're 2 types of claypot dishes, one is the basic claypot chicken& salted fish rice in sweet soya sauve topped with marinated chicken. The other one is non-sauce claypot chicken rice.
SURPRISE!!!!!! Here are all the legendary dishes!
1.Claypot Salted fish & chicken rice  . (Big-RM11 Small-
                                                              RM5.50)
There are so much salted fish in the claypot rice and it given the dimension of taste , the "boss" is just so generous!=D Besides, the sweet soya sauce has moderated the salty taste of the salted fish~ arghhh~~yum yum yummmyy!

2. Claypot Chicken rice (Big-RM9 Small-RM4.50)
Fluffy grains of rice cooked by charcoal and served with the simple marinated chicken. There are some ginger inside the rice. How about the chicken??? of course, the chciken is so juicyyyy and smooth~mix them up, then, u can enjoy your meal!

3. oil cabbage (RM 3.80)
Not forgetting about the vegetables that compliments the dishes and bring out all the flavour just waiting to burst out of the dishes. The vegetables is very fresh. We like with the cabbage is the fried shallots. The fried onion is not those ready packed fried shallots.

drooling~ Those claypot rices  is just so LUCIOUS! The price of these claypot rice is so reasonable and affortable too. 'SO GOOD'. We can almost breathe in air of nostalgia when we're having our dinner here.

If you need more persuasion, the shop has been reviewed as one of the best delicacies in town by one of the Malaysia's famous TV show "阿贤人情味"- "AH XIAN".

We also have interviewed one of the customer.(As the picture below)~MR Q~ He is really "cute-Q" haha~ He like the old friend of this shop, as he has been visitng this shop for 30 years!wow!!

The permanant customer of RESTAUTANT CHAN SIEW HENG"MR Q".

cheeseeeeeee~Let's take a picture with the 2 claypot rice  brothers and thier lovely mummy.

P/S if you want to go and try out these delicious claypot chicken rice, you need to go early. According to the "boss", they can sell 50 bowls of big claypot rice & 50 bowls of small claypot rice.~Amazinggg~

Here is the map~

CONTINUEEEEEEE............

How can you dinner end with just the main course? It has to go along with the desserts . So we will recommend you one great dessert that will blow your mind.

That is ICE KACANG , one great news is that it is just opposite Chan Siew Heng Restaurant.

Well, we went to "Foong Mun Kee" to try out the most traditional ice kacang in Kampar.

Firstly, we had an interview session with Mr Foong.

Us: hello, Mr Foong, when is your business started run?

Mr Foong: In year 1964.It has been running for almost 50 years.

Us: So…….is this shop opened by your daddy?

Mr Foong: No No, It was opened by my grandfather, and this business has been running for 3 generations. I’m THE 3RD generation so it kinda makes us the oldest ice kacang restaurant in Kampar! Before then, our business just started as a really small mamak stall (the 2nd picture we have circled above).

Us: Okay, uncle, which type of ice kacang is highly recommended by you?

Mr Foong: Mmm….Original Ice Kacang! It was created by my father after my father handled this business. It was also the most popular one in Kampar during the 70’s. But now, there are more and more new recipes and there are many competitors and customer nowadays that don’t really appreciate these old recipes (he looked so disappointed).

Us: Awww…..cheer up uncle, you still got us! Haha! We will be sure to recommend this to our friends. Besides the ‘Original Ice Kacang’, is there any various type of ice kacang?

Mr Foong: Of course, Coconut ice kacang, Kopi ice kacang, special ice kacang, and Red bean cup!

Us: Okay~thanks uncle for your time and cooperation. Hehe~ So can we make an order now?

Mr Foong: Yes, of course.

Even though there is a variety of ice kacang to choose , our main pick was still the original ice kacang, but we order a special and coconut ice kacang to try out too.

Mr Foong shows his real kung fu in his kitchen when preparing all the legendary ICE KACANG!!!

Mr Foong: Althought my kitchen looks so messy and retro but it’s very clean! =D

Here are the main ingredients of the ice kacang. These ingredients play an important role in the ice kacang making~ without them, it’s pretty much dead~

1 1)Ice machine, and those cans which include: corn, instant milk
2.2)The QQ-Grass Jelly
3.3)The Sweety Gula Melaka
4.4)The Fluffy Red Bean
5. 5)The greenly Cendol

Before eating those refreshing and cold ice kacang, Mr Foong taught us to make the ice kacang ourselves. Jamie got first-hand experience in preparing a bowl of ice kacang."People, have you noticed that some of the steps are prepared by using your hand" OMG! @.@
P/S:  No worry~ My hand are clean! hehehe~ =P

After 10 MIN...
DANG DANG DANG~ ! Here is the COCONUT ICE KACANG~
C-0-C-0-N-U-T COCONUT, COCONUT…….
This dish is topped with juicy and succulent coconut flesh since the main ingredient is coconut. And the other ingredients are fresh as well. With all those awesome stuff, it is like having an explosion on your palate and mind!! One thing we are sure of : your mouth has never taste dessert like this before.(RM3.50)

Special ice kacang. What is so special about it? Ahah, special here means the combination of the ingredients like coconut, grass jelly and all the others main ingredients added with a scoop of ICE-CREAM. This has got to be the yummiest
ice kacang we have ever tasted! It really sounds amazing too. You just need to add these two dishes into your life goals because it is that good! Coooool!!!!!!
The price is reasonable too, only RM4.

The historical ice kacang in Kampar. The origin of every ice kacang in this shop. It's made from all the main ingredients and you can taste more of the taste of Gula Melaka in this dish. It's simple n since the ice melted easily, one spoon in your mouth makes it literally melt with a burst of a thousand flavours. If you don't like having a bunch ingredients mixed together, then, i will strongly suggest you to try this out.
-RM3-

The place is simple, retro ans small
but the environment that it brings to it's    patrons is a sense of comfort and serenity    while dinning the dishes available there and it brings out the best of the food served.

WOWWWW~ The ice kacang is too YUMMY!!~~It's nice!

Thanks Mr Foong, for treating us the ice kacang!!! Hahaha~~XD

Promise that we will pay you a visit next time.

Dance with chicken- Restoran Lim Kee

Hello you all=))
Sorry for neglecting our blogger, currently.
So, how’s your weekend? Ours were pretty fine=)

last Friday night, we visited an old fashioned restaurant in Kampar. To us, it should be a good and unforgettable night.

Old style restaurant seems like an ordinary stall, to most of us, to a certain extent.
Yet, it surprised us.

Approximately 530pm, we went to the restaurant.
It names “Lim Kee”. Take a guess, what they provide?
Wow, you guys quite clever! Yup, they provide chop rice!
Oh gosh, how a delicious thing in Kampar XD
That’s why there had umpteen of customers were waiting their dishes patiently.

First, we viewed the menu swiftly.
Still, we can’t make a smart decision
-.- what a giggle.
Don’t laugh guys, show you the menu.

Yet, you know, why we couldn’t determine the TARGET.   =D.

Okie~ =)
Finally, we done it! As below,

Lim Kee Chicken Chop with Rice (chef recommended)
This is their main dishes. The sauce is made by cheese, onion, black pepper and mushroom as well. *Just the way they are*..
Well, frankly, we seem like nodding our head whilst tasting it.

Chief Sauce Chicken Chop with Rice –
It’s a special idea created by the chef. Sweet and sour, can impressed in your tongue hastily. If you are not big fans of spicy, it should be your best choice=)

Black Pepper Sauce Chicken Chop with Rice –
The sauce is a little bit spicy. But, you still can taste the original taste of the chicken chop. It’s really practice our tasty buds.

Small Two Sauce Chicken Chop with Rice –
Indeed, the sauce is scrumptious. The sauce is over grilled.
The taste of the sauce is same with KFC’s mash potato.
*magic* yet, it is a gourmet.

Thai Style Chicken Chop with Rice –
As usual, Thai style provides spicy and sour. Once you taste it that will be a non-stop movement.

Hmm~before we start eating,
we should take a picture with the chop rice.
The chop almost bigger than our face ~ hoho...

After a couple of minute, we finished it. So, do you think it's mouthwatering or what?XD

=X
Back to topic, Lim Kee was established by the owner on 28.2.2009. Oh gosh, 2 years?! *how come the food can be so delicious? WOW*

Owner said, “No why. We cooked it wholeheartedly. This is our secret recipe.” We nodded. “Kampar is the best place to provides freshly chicken, so, we chose it as our restaurant’s location”, she said.

Ya, the chicken chop is quite big and fresh! No preservative and natural.
The whole set chicken chop can over cover a normal stomach  =)
please be patient, we know, the most you care.
 PRICE!
Indeed, the price surprised us. Each only cost RM 5.70 .
 It's large and cheap.

Zazang~
Madam Lim is the owner of Lim Kee restaurant .
She is kinda shy person but friendly enough.

No hesitate. Guys, as the map we show, go and try it. We vow, it wouldn’t let you down.

Fly to Korea ~ Top Korea

An-yeo-ha-sei-yeo  people.

.
This is the 1st post of us =)) how we wish it can surprise you guys!

We went to Kampar new town, Top Korea”, the only Korean and Italian style restaurant in the town. It seems like an extravagant restaurant to most of us. Instead it’s cheaper than expected.

It was established by Mr. Sam on 18th August 2010. He is from Taiping. He told us that he was interested in cooking since he was a teenager. He learned his cooking skill in Singapore. He worked in various types of restaurants before, Korean, Italian, and French restaurant, for instance. His best dish is pizza.

Here is the yummy-licious dishes we’ve tried!!!~~
Including some of the "must order" dishes.

The Menu, like the restaurant, is compact, but that didn't make it any easier to decide on what to order. ><

Chef recommended:

Korea Style Fried Rice Flour Cake
Ingredients: Rice Flour Cake, Scallion, Onion, Beef, Kimchi and
        lettuce.
It is so chewy, sticky and spicy. We sure that spicy fans will fall in love with it!!!!!!!!

KOREA KIM CHI SOUP
This soup's highly recommended by us!~ The soup has a strong kimchi taste, not too spicy, it bring the sourness out & there's a bit of sweetness. It really can whets the appetite & comes with white rice.

1.   HOT PAN BEEF
2.   ASSERTED RICE IN STONE CATTLE
SIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZSSSSSS~~~
These two sizzling hot cuisines’ re our best pick

Let's start from the right : HOT PAN BEEF
The beef is so juicy & tender. It's fried with some onions and chillies. The homemade sauce flavouring these dishes too~We finished the sauce untill it's dry =P ~YUMMYYYYYYYYYYYY~

The left: ASSERTED RICE IN STONE CATTLE
It comes with a big claypot with rice. The rice is fluffy & warm. It also served with minced chicken, cucumber, carrot, seeweed, secret homemade sauce as well as a sunny side up egg! P/S we love to poke the sunny egg yolk & give everything a good stir!~ XD

KOREA tea
It’s a traditional korean tea~It's a good thirst quencher!! It can quench your thirst  especially after eating so much spicy food.
cooooool~~~~

BBQ PIZZA & HAWAIIAN PIZZA
Next up is pizza~ The Hawaiian Pizza & BBQ Pizza. The crust pizza with cheesy ingredients. Let go with the Hawaiian pizza. There is some mince chicken & pineapple topping & different type of cheese. The cheese totally melt in our mouth ! Thumb up !
The BBQ pizza topped with chunky minced beef, flavoured with its own secret recipe and shredded cheese while baked to perfection, its crispiness makes this dish one of its kind and customers wanting more.

CHEESE BAKE RICE WITH CHICKEN &
 LINGUINI GAMBERI
The rice imported from Korea, Seoul. It has a big different with our local rice. Full of chicken cube and cheese as well as white sauce.
It made with sauteed prawn, garlic, chilli, passley and olive oil. To us, it is a healthy food.=))

The noodles was springy enough with cracked pepper,& few tiny prawn. Omg !
This spaghetti isn't as good as those served in other Italian restaurant. The only benefit is served in large potion. Hahaaha :)

This is the way of the owner to melt the customer’s heart~ You can collect one stamp after you spend every Rm25.

Let's take a photo with the friendly & handsome "BOSS"!  "peace~"
It was really nice restaurant~ *clapsssss* We went back with stuffed stomach, BURPPP~

Guess how much did we spent at the restaurant? TAAA-DAAA~ Just RM60!!!!!!! How reasonable can that be?!

Address = No: 33, Persiaran Batu Karang, Taman Kolej Perdana, 31900 Kampar, Perak. (near KTAR)

OPENING HOUR : 5PM-11PM (Everyday except Thursdays)

P/s : Unfortunately, this restaurant will be moving to Singapore =( as the owner want to spread his secret recipes to another places.
